SPRING IS FINALLY HERE!

Well actually I've been in 40C/100F+ heat for the last month in South East Asia.

Spring seems like a distant memory from a few years back.

And while I know I live a fortunate life that some people envy, what I miss most about home is spring.

Especially when it's so hot outside you have to stay inside most afternoons.

I miss the excitement of spring.

It's when something as simple as a slightly warm day can change a community, and everyone is rejoicing that the snow may be gone!

And I love foraging, it taps into my naturally frugal personality. If you're interested in it too you may want to read my beginner's foraging guide.

But if you'd rather someone else do the work I think it's also noble to support local foragers and farmer's at the market.

Spring is the time for some of my favorite recipes. The fresh flavors of spring food bring an end to all of the heaviness in winter.

​20 Minute Snow Crab Cakes​
When someone gives you Cape Breton snow crab, the results are delicious.

​Guatemalan Radish Salad with Chicharron​
​Radish isn't on the top of everyone's list but this combination with chicharron is a winner.

​Spicy Pickled Rhubarb​
I was never a fan of rhubarb because I thought you had to add too much sugar but these quick pickles are AMAZING. I surprised myself with this recipe.

​Whipped Chive Butter​
Restaurants often whip butter because it stretches the butter and creates a create consistency for bread. This flavored butter is so good and freezes well.

​Easy Peasy Pickled Ramps​
Ramps have such a short season but thankfully pickling them is easy and it gives such a delicate flavor all year round.

So many people buy beautiful produce from the farmer's market and throw out the greens! This works so well for most veggie tops, except carrot as they can make you sick.

​A classic drink mix, it's also another great non-alcoholic mixer.
