I'm on a plane to China as you read this.

And yet even I have FOMO.

I have seen all the social media from home, it's strawberry season!

And as much as I love living in tropical weather year round. There is something really special when summer finally arrives and so do all the new fruits and local vegetables.

I'm only in China for a quick 10 days to see Beijing and Xi An but I have really been looking forward to this adventure. It has been a long time since I traveled somewhere completely new.

I have to idea what to expect. Mostly because I have not planned a single thing yet. I guess that's what time on the plane is for!

I'm returning to Canada mid-July and I've already starting thinking about what I want to cook.

Here are my favorite summer recipes. Some are local to me and some I learned traveling.

​Strawberry Chipotle Whipped Butter​

Is it wrong to be obsessed with your own recipe? I played around with this one last summer and I love the smokey-spicy-sweet combo.

​Watermelon Mint Feta Salad​

If you've never tried this combination it sounds strange but it is deliciously salty-sweet-fresh. If you can buy really good feta it is outstanding

​Cape Breton Snow Crab Cakes​

In general I would choose lobster over crab. I find crab to be so much work for such little meat.

But these Cape Breton snow crab cakes changed my mind. It stretches the meat and it's so quick to put together this light meal.

​Strawberry Salad​

Throwing strawberries on top of a salad is always a good idea. I'm the kind of gal that usually picks red onion and puts them to this side. But this red onion dressing sounds so wrong but tastes so right.

Trust me.

​5 Minute Hawaiian Poke​

Summer calls for lighter meals and once you make poke you'll never buy a $20 bowl again. I ate it everywhere in Maui from gas stations to fine dining and could not get enough.

I was able to get the recipe from the famous Roy's restaurant and was shocked at how easy it is to make.

​The Prettiest Tomato Salad You'll Ever Eat​

Sometimes I eat a dish that is SO GOOD I beg the chef to give me the recipe. And I'm happy I did in this case because he's no longer working at the winery.

This isn't a quick and easy recipe, but it's worth taking the extra time.

​Easy Strawberry Tarts​

No need to be a baking pro, buy the frozen shells for this simple recipe. I learned it from my aunt who grabbed it from a cream cheese box.

​Chilean Pebre​

Everyone knows Mexican salsa, but have you tried Chilean pebre? One of the easiest things to make on a hot day and everything will taste so much better.

​Filipino Kinilaw​

If you love ceviche you must try kinilaw. This is a traditional recipe, but I have also provided some easy substitutions if you can't source all the ingredients like coconut vinegar.

​Spanish Rose Sangria​

I am not a fan of the syrupy sweet red wine sangria, but this one is light, bright and can be made in advance.
