This is the fourth time in a year my flight path totaled 35+ hours

I'm currently in Montreal on hour 12 of a 40 hour flight day...or rather days to get from Halifax to Kuala Lumpur.

I've already done it a few times in the last 12 months and I feel like it took my travel expertise up a notch.

Because my flights to Cuba and Ecuador were nothing compared to this.

I don't dread these days.

I'm on my own so they are quiet and I get to sit, think, and binge watch television guilt free.

But I did want to share 10 of my best tips which help make it much more manageable.

1 NEVER DRINK COFFEE OR TEA ON A PLANE

Or anything that requires hot water for that matter. This is really for all flights.

I'd heard from several flight attendants not to do it but they never told me why. Now that I know I need to save everyone who thinks they got food poisoning from Mexico or Colombia.

You were infected before you landed.

Plane water tanks are rarely cleaned. It's well known to everyone in the industry.

So bad that when the EPA sampled 158 planes in 2004 13 percent contained coliform, and two had dangerous levels of E. coli.

Perhaps you're thinking oh but that was practically 20 years ago. Yet you'll never see a flight attendant drink hot water so I'm guessing nothing has changed.

2 DO NOT ESTIMATE THE POWER OF SNACKS

This seems so obvious but most people forget to bring snacks unless they have children.

But food in airports is ridiculously expensive and food can be terrible on planes.

While theoretically fasting is supposed to help with jetlag it just makes me hangry.

While packing I always throw in a couple energy bars (not granola bars which can't even keep toddlers full).

I don't eat these normally but I do love RXBAR on planes.

They didn't sponsor this but every other energy bar I've tried tastes artificial when a chemical aftertaste. But not these ones.

They have a peanut butter chocolate and chocolate sea salt that feels decadent but actually keeps you full.

3 DRINK PEE STRETCH REPEAT.

While you're at it make sure you bring a water bottle and drink at least one glass of water every hour in the air.

I find this means I have to get up once an hour to go to the washroom. While I'm waiting I stretch by grabbing each elbow and doing a forward bend, it stretches my lower back and hamstrings.

If you want to take it up a notch ask the flight attendant to fill your water bottle.

If you start to think that everyone you see in the airport will use 3-5 plastic cups in a flight, imagine how much plastic is being used on planes.

Not all of them will do it but most will, and it means you don't have to ring for an attendant after the washroom for more water,
